Running our Interior Styling & Design business this year looks very different from last year. As many of you can relate, COVID-19 has brought many changes to our jobs and lives.
Early on this year when everything was shut down, it was very slow for us. We didn’t have much business. All schools moved to virtual learning, and we found ourselves adjusting to the new pace of life. You can find a blog post I did early on in the pandemic here.
As fall approached, we had to make individual family choices on schooling for our children. My (Kirsten) family chose the hybrid option, where the kids are in school when the COVID cases are low and then online when COVID cases are high. We’ve yet to be back in-person learning this year.
Molly and her family chose to homeschool her boys this year. This was the schooling option that worked best for her family this year.
Due to the kids being home during the day and needing to do school, Molly & I had to move our client meetings to the evenings or Saturday mornings when our husbands are home to watch the kids.
Is it ideal to do client meetings in the evening? No. Usually we are are pretty tired from the day. Trying to get individual design work done while helping the kids with schooling, plus all the other areas of life…it adds up. However, we are making it work and that’s what matters right now!
During the week we try to get together at least one afternoon for a few hours to do design work together. Otherwise we do check ins during the week via Facetime. We definitely value the time when we have it together.
During the time when we work together, our boys play together. We’re very blessed that they enjoy playing together. It can get loud, crazy, and we do have interruptions.
We often end our time feeling like this picture below. 😉 Real life!!
Even though our business does not look ideal right now, we’re still incredibly grateful that we have work.
We are grateful for our husbands support, our boy’s friendship, our clients, those who support us online and in person, and most importantly to Jesus who gives us the peace and endurance to keep going during this time.
We hope you can take time to reflect on the good things that have happened this year, even if it doesn’t feel like much.
Happy Thanksgiving Friends!!
