Picture this: You’re out for a little retail therapy. You’ve got your Starbucks latte in hand, and you’re slowly perusing the Target aisles.
You’re not looking for anything per se, but then you spot it. The perfect lamp! Into the cart it goes. You’re not sure where you are going to put it, but you are confident that you will find a spot.
It’s not long before you spot some adorable pillows. You are in love with the fun black and white pattern, so into the cart they go. You can’t wait to get home and place them on the sofa in the living room. They are just what the room needs.
You get home and quickly remove the old pillows from the couch and replace them with your Target treasures. You also waste no time in setting up the perfect lamp. You take a step back to admire your handiwork. Hmmm, for some reason the choir of angel voices you expected to hear in your head with these new item is not echoing in your head. You take a step back. Something is off. The pillows just aren’t meshing with the awesome rug you scored at an antique store 3 months ago. And the lamp, while beautiful in the store, does not coordinate with that table lamp you purchased on clearance over Memorial Day. What you thought was going to be an exciting moment where your room would finally come together, has instead left you feeling defeated and confused. “Where did I go wrong?” you wonder.
Okay, so that was a mini-novel in and of itself, but have you been in this position before? I will be the first to admit that I have done this. In my excitement to get a room together, I have put things together without a plan and the end result is less than exciting or ideal. And in the end, I feel more confused and overwhelmed about where to go from that point on.
So many of us have done this, so don’t feel bad if this has ever been you. We start off with good intentions. We want a put together space that speaks to our style. But so often times, when we plow ahead without a plan, we can end up with a room full of “stuff” that just doesn’t work. We’ve spent more money than we care to admit and the room still doesn’t feel “right” or finished.
This is where hiring someone to help you with a “plan” can save you time, money, and stress.
When creating a design plan for a client, we allow our clients to gain a vision of the space by allowing them to see all the different elements together. We create what you could call a “game plan” for the space. We have been told time and time again, how this helps to alleviate stress, saves our clients time, and yes, even money.
You see, with a plan in place, you aren’t buying different, random pieces and then trying to force them to work together. I really like analogies, so bear with me 🙂 Imagine you’re working on a puzzle, but you don’t have the picture on the box to look at as you go. Doable? Yes, but extremely difficult, time consuming, and not to mention, stressful. This is what it can feel like to put a room together with no plan in place. You really want the pieces to work together, but you don’t know how to make them work because you are lacking a vision and/or plan.
You may be wondering, well what if I can’t afford to buy all the design items in the plan all at once? We totally understand, and that is the position in which many of us find ourselves. A lot of our clients love having a design plan that allows them to choose when to buy the items. Some of our clients are ready to take on a full room refresh/remodel, while others want to implement in phases. They may prioritize the larger pieces of furniture and then add in the accessories as budget allows.
So whether you are planning on refreshing your tiny powder room, or a full blown kitchen remodel, we believe a plan is vital. For your budget and your sanity 🙂 If you have more questions about a plan for your space, reach out to us and we would be happy to send you more information.
