Raise your hand if you are jumping for joy that spring has arrived! I know I am. The sunshine and warmth just does wonders for the soul, am I right?
With the increased sunshine we are spending more and more time outdoors and it is wonderful. I love spring so much, but with our hard winters here in Wisconsin, often times the outdoor spaces around my home need a little sprucing up!
Curb appeal can make such a difference! And often times it just takes a few little changes to make a BIG difference. Is your front door entrance looking a little sad or worn? It’s amazing what a fresh coat of paint, maybe some new house numbers and a little greenery can do.
Shea McGee from Studio McGee is one of my all time favorite designers. She makes the front door entrance above look so inviting and stylish. The black door is stunning, classic, and really pops against the house paint color. The side lights fit perfectly in this design and the plaid door mat is both fun and classic. I also love how she layers in the greenery here. And don’t be afraid to go with faux greenery! Many companies have come a long way when it comes to faux greenery, and bonus, you can’t kill the plants!
Planters are a great way to add some interest to your front door. Put one on each side of the door if you have space. If you only have space for some on one side, layer in a larger one and smaller one to add some dimension. Or even one larger planter can make a big impact. See photo below for some inspiration. This is another design by Shea McGee that was featured in Domino Magazine.
This is an example of a faux plant from Home Depot that could look great outside your front door. Best part? You can use it year after year 🙂 Throw this in a planter and you would be amazed at how good it will look.
Don’t forget about a welcome mat. Today there are literally thousands to choose from. If you have the space, I love the layered look. Just make sure your mats are designated for outdoor use. Layer a smaller one over a slightly bigger rug to achieve this look.
Lighting is also a game changer when it comes to outdoor spaces. Just like light fixtures make a big impact on the interior of your home, they can make the same big impact outdoors. Updated lighting is like an instant face lift for an outdoor space.
There is a lot more I could say about outdoor spaces but I’ll save that for another time. Still feel overwhelmed and not sure where to start? This is something with which we can help! If you’re interested in discussing a plan for your outdoor space, just send us an email and we’ll get back to you with more information.
