Building a new home is so exciting. It is also an immense investment in time, resources, and energy.
New builds require a cohesive vision so that throughout the home, the spaces flow together and the design ages well. All the decisions that come with building a new home can be overwhelming!
That’s where we come in. We help our clients enjoy the process as we handle the design details to make their dream home a reality. The end result is a space that is comfortable, true to the client’s style, and designed for the long term.
Our Ridgeview New Build project was two years in the making. We find that bringing in a designer early in the process helps save time and money for our clients, not to mention creating a home that is beautiful and unique. For their dream home, our clients purchased a lot with a stunning view overlooking the Mississippi Valley in the Coulee Region. At our first design meeting to review architectural plans, budget, and vision for the space – we discussed their desire to bring the outdoors into the space with expansive windows to flood the home with natural light and capture the picturesque views within many of the rooms. Our clients shared their desire to have a home with a Scandinavian vibe with a nod to traditional stylings. They had a love for modern, architectural lighting as well. They were drawn toward walnut wood and rich, blue tones. Conversations like these shape the design process early on to help us cater to the client’s particular home location, needs, and vision. The kitchen area really captures their overall style and vision for the space.
A service many of our clients appreciate in the new build process is our eyes on their architectural plans early on. We review these plans for flow and space usage and even down to details of electrical and plumbing locations so that we can problem solve with the contractors and builders early on to ensure all of these elements fit the overall design. This ends up saving all collaborators time and money when these details are worked through early on. It’s also a time where we can make sure some of our client’s unique desires are worked into the project. For instance, these clients wanted a cuddle room that was cozy and warm. They welcomed our input on how to make that room work in the architectural plans. We love adding these personalized elements for clients and ensuring that it connects to the overall style of the home as well. This color-drenched, cozy space is a statement room in their home.
In phase one of the design process, we spend time focusing on the overarching aesthetic of the home’s interior and exterior elements. We provide inspiration for each part of the new build, to show how each space flows together. Next is the construction finishings design phase where we select the baseboard, casing, tile, cabinetry, plumbing fixtures, fixed lighting and other construction finishes. All throughout these phases, we are meeting with clients to present designs and communicating with builders and contractors as the building process progresses. It’s our priority to make sure that as the designs come together, and the execution of them, in a timely way. With an open concept home like this one, we wanted each space to shine but also complement the other areas around it. The kitchen can stand alone as the show stopper, but it also flows seamlessly into the other spaces around it – the entryway, the wet bar, and the living room – all make this home feel like it was meant to be.
We wanted each room to have the sense that it belonged with the other rooms. We love how even with this powder bath, we were able to give a Scandinavian nod with a little extra drama through high contrasts and tile on the whole wall. We think it turned out so beautifully.
For many clients who complete a new build with us, they choose to complete a furnishings phase as well. We select and order furniture, rugs, curtains, table lamps, art, and more in this phase for whatever rooms our clients want finished; these items are chosen to complement the construction finishings and show off the client’s style. Our clients appreciate our access to vendors that are not found locally; we take the time to ensure the items selected fit their budget and are of good quality as well. Their living room is an example of how we can plan and put a space together with just the right finishings. All of the items in this living room are not from a set; they complement each other but do not match. This gives a space a layered, collected look while allowing it to age well and not feel “trendy”. We love the different elements at play here in this space. The contrast of the fireplace with the light and airy vibe is something we love. We also love the rich leather sofa and all the other textiles that just make the space so inviting. Our clients love it too!
Every space in this new build aligns with the vision we worked on with our clients. This stunning, one-of-a-kind home will be enjoyed for years to come. For more on this project, check out our Ridgeview Portfolio.
